Schalke's Sporting Director Christian Heidel is open to the idea of signing left back Baba Rahman on a permanent deal after his impressive performances against German Champions Bayern Munich.
The Ghanaian international joined the German club last month on a loan deal from Chelsea, who have just signed left back Marcos Alonso from Serie A club Fiorentina.
Joining for a reported £/€500k, Schalke cannot make deal permanently, but their Sporting Director is open to the idea.
"His situation is a bit different. Chelsea is a bit more restrictive," Heidel said. "In the end it depends then the player on whether he wants to stay with us."
That sounds like they are interested in the player, but that Baba has to indicate he wants leave Chelsea to reduce the price. Chelsea could go down a few routes with Baba.
At 22, Chelsea could loan Baba for a number of years and pick up a handsome loan fee for every year. They could reject Schalke's advances and incorporate Baba into the Chelsea squad next season. Or they could sell Baba with a buy back clause.
