Burnley boss: "There’s more to come from Bamford."

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has given words of encouragement to striker Patrick Bamford ahead of his sixth loan in 4 years. Bamford joins Burnley on a season loan deal, but faces competition for his place.

"I still think he’s improving," the Burnley boss said. "Although he’s gone out on loan a few times, there’s more to come from him and he’s different to what we’ve got, so forgetting about who he is and where he’s from, he’s just a different type of centre forward to what we’ve got.

"Having a bit of diversity, particularly in your front line, is important and from the business side, if you bought someone like him who had 100 Premier League games, and 30 goals, it’s fair to say he’d probably be beyond our realm.

"He [Bamford] has different movement patterns, he’s a different type of build, he looks to play with cleverness, not always force - which he can add, I think. How many different ways can you affect a game, even from the bench, the game has been affected many times in my experience here by changes from the bench. We want strength in the starting XI and on the bench. The deeper the squad is, and more quality, the better chance we have."

Despite Bamford's last two loan moves being a failure, Dyche believes there could be positives from a negative situation.

"There has to a reality. He’s at a club where it’s statistically very difficult to get in the first team,” he said. “But you take your chance as a young man when Chelsea come knocking.

"It’s part of learning, Sam Vokes had done five loans. Harry Kane had been out at Leicester and Norwich and not played a lot, back in and he catches fire. Who’s to say those experiences didn’t round him to be more impressive than if he had really good experiences?

"You think you’ve got to work hard, get fit, stronger, and he was a different animal."
