Patrick Bamford linked with a move to Burnely

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford is being linked with a move to Premier League new boys Burnley, as he looks to put last seasons troubles behind him.

On 31 January 2012, Bamford joined Chelsea from Nottingham Forest on a five-year contract for a fee of £1.5 million. Even though he had played twice for Forest in the Championship at a young age, Bamford was joined Chelsea's youth team and trained with the first team upon his arrival.

Bamford then saw a series of highly successful loans with MK Dons (44 games, 21 goals), Derby (23 games, 8 goals) and Middlesbrough (43 games, 19 goals & Championship Player of the Year) before things took a hit.

A step up to the Premier League with Crystal Palace was seen as a great move, but Bamford only featured in 8 games (mostly subs) until he himself cut his own loan spell short and returned to Chelsea.

On the last days of the January transfer window, he was loaned out once more. This time to Norwich City, as they tried to fight for survival in the Premier League. Once again, this loan was a backwards step, as he featured 7 times for Norwich. They were relegated and Bamford returned to Chelsea.

With only two years left on his contract, Chelsea could cash on on Bamford and put a buy back clause if he ever regained his award winning form. Other reports claim the medical or announcement could be as early as this Monday.

Bamford has been waiting for a top flight club to come in for him and Burnley are just the club, but it remains to be seen whether they can offer him any meaningful game time.
