Kiwomya needs to get his fitness up
Crewe boss says loanee Alex Kiwomya will be a impact sub until he gets his fitness up to be about to start games.
Kiwomya came off the bench on the first day of the season to assist and score a solo winner for Crewe, then came off the bench to get an hour of football in the cup.
"He's not at the level yet (to play 90 minutes) and I think if we pushed him too much he would break down," Davis said.
"We tested him on Thursday when the other lads were off and he fell well short of what we expect here at Crewe. If I chucked him in and he tried to play 90 minutes I think he would break down.
"At the moment he's doing very well as an impact player, but I want him to be more than that and he wants to be more than that, but until he reaches a level of fitness that we're happy with and one he won't break down and get injured from, then we can't do it.
"Until then we have to work hard on getting him fit, working with him on his days off, as there's a level he needs to reach and he's not there yet. Having said that, the short amount of time he's been on the pitch, he's been terrific to watch, and that bodes well if we can get him to play 90 minutes on a regular basis.
"Alex is a very explosive player in the way he plays, but he gets tired very quickly. Because of the pace he runs at, that endurance isn't there yet, and we have to try and fit that in to his training, even though it's not easy with the amount of games at this stage of the season, but he's going to have to do that bit extra."
