Andreas Christensen disappointed not to be at the Olympics
Andreas Christensen has expressed his disappointed at not being able to go to the Rio Olympics, due to commits from his loanee club Monchengladbach.
"I am not going to the Olympics because we have got the Champions League qualifying games," Christensen told Goal.
"Obviously before that I wanted to go, it would have been a once in a lifetime opportunity. I wanted to go but we need to qualify for the Champions League and that’s important, maybe more so I am still happy I can help the team.
"I think maybe club football and Champions League football means a bit more. Playing for your country, is important, it is two different things and I do love playing for my country."
Denmark were beaten 2-1 by Sweden in the qualifiers for the EURO, a tournament Christensen would have featured in and missing out on the Olympics has added to his disappointment.
"Yeah, that’s what I feel sorry for the most,” Christensen added.
"I got a bit more games in the team after the Euros qualifiers. I think if we qualified, maybe I would have played and so I am disappointed we missed out but the whole country is I think.
"Now we have got the World Cup qualifier to come up and we need to make amends, maybe we were the best team that didn't qualify [for Euro 2016]."
