Kalas: "I think it’s very important to be playing games."

After spending his first couple weeks on loan with Fulham and joining them for their pre-season in Spain, Tomas Kalas spoke about how he's dealt with his new environment.

“I think it’s very important to be playing games,” he told fulhamfc. “That’s more what you need than training. For me personally I started pre-season a bit later than the other guys so it’s important for me to get as many minutes as I can. Playing 60 minutes and 45 minutes, I think, is more than enough from two games in three days.”

Kalas faced Musonda's Real Betis and Nacional during pre-season.

“Both teams played different styles," Kalas reflected. "Real Betis were more on the ball, they were playing more of the ball and looking for the ball but we were playing our style of football and psychology and how we want to play.

We shouldn’t be adapting to the opponent we should try to play our football and I think it’ll work. Against Betis I definitely think we weren’t the worst team on the pitch, we were at least equal with them.

“Against Nacional we were much better but unfortunately we didn’t have enough luck to score at the end but it is still pre-season and the goals will come because we are creating enough chances. I think it’s just about the right timing; hopefully we will time it right for the start of the season.”

“I think we are getting fitter and fitter. Hopefully with these games and these minutes for all the lads, because everyone did play, we will get fit enough to play against Crystal Palace at the weekend like a normal season game, and then the season starts.

“For me it’ll be my first game at Craven Cottage, although we did play there twice with Middlesbrough I didn’t play, so for me it’ll be special. Everyone is looking forward to it as it’s the last game before the season starts and it’s a key point for the team to see where you are.”

Kalas moved only across the road to Fulham when he joined and has settled into life at Fulham well.

“The lads are absolutely fine and I think it’s been easy for everyone." he stated. "They are your teammates and you have to get on well with each other and I think we are already in that stage of getting on well. Hopefully it’ll stay like that and we’ll be a team off the pitch and on the pitch.”
