Loanee goal keeper Matej Delac has spoken to sport1 about his desire to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina on the senior international stage.
Matej Delac was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but has featured for Croatia from the under 15 to the under 21. However, he has never had a senior Croatian cap, so that makes him eligible for Bosnia and Herzegovina and he now wants to play for them.
"I want to defend for Bosnia and Herzegovina [national team], the country where I was born. I'm open to discussions about the necessary procedures to gain the right to play for the country. Of course, the first of his defense I must draw the attention of coach Mehmed Bazdarevic," said Delac.
Due to a ACL injury he missed most of the last season on loan to Sarajevo, but returned towards the end of the season and featured a few times. Delac (23) has played for a host of clubs on loan since he sinced for Chelsea in 2010. Vitesse, T. Budejovice, V. Guimarães, Inter Zapresic, Vojvodina, Arles-Avignon and Sarajevo to be exact. What becomes of him next season, only time will tell, but he has now decided to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina.
