Kalas: "It was disappointing not get called up."
Tomas Kalas spoken to Middlesbrough during the international breaks about not being called up for country and his recent performances, including an impressive match against Hull City.
“It was disappointing not get called up but it was at the time I wasn’t playing much,” he said. “It was understandable, but also nice for me to get a break.
“Everyone knows the Championship is one of the most difficult leagues in Europe with the amount of games you play and travelling you do across the country.
“We have eight games in April so it’s going to be Saturday, Tuesday constantly. That’s what I’m getting at when I say this league is so hard.”
Kalas has enjoyed a run of games at centre back, due to the injury of Dani Ayala, but he was quick to praise him.
“It’s really difficult to replace Dani Ayala,” said Kalas. “For me, Dani is the best central defender in the league when he’s playing and not injured. Everyone wants him back so it was a challenge to reach the level that Dani was playing at his best before his injury.
“Hopefully in the last few games I’ve managed that or at least been close. It would be perfect to keep going like that, but Dani is probably back and we’ve got a lot of good players. Nobody knows who’s going to play so we will see. Whoever plays well in training will play.”
