Christensen: "I was super happy at Chelsea, so returning would be fine."
Andreas Christensen offers fresh hopes for Chelsea, explains his time in Germany and the challenges facing him ahead of an exiting national career.
"I think the timing's been really good. I went from training with the first team at Chelsea, and at the time I thought it was the right thing. Now I have selected playing time for training in Chelsea. It has given me a lot of confidence and experience. I have been better to take the right decisions on the pitch," says Andreas Christensen on Thursday after helping Denmark to a win 2-1 over Iceland.
"I've got the support I need. The team [Monchengladbach] has worked, and then I also worked. And then the confidence just got bigger and bigger."
Christensen's new challenge is to cement his place for his national side. "It is clear that I have to work incredibly hard. We are six men in the square, and the other player in the big leagues and play every time. But I think I've played well for the club team, and I hope I can transfer to the national team also," he said.
"A real man in the Bundesliga will always be good for the national team. He can play many positions, and it is important for us, because we must have flexibility in our tactical maneuvers. He is an exciting and versatile player," says the Denmark coach.
There have been a lot of rumours that Chelsea want Andreas back in the summer, but Christensen has made it clear that it all depends on game time.
"I was super happy at Chelsea, so returning would be fine. But I am also settled in well in Germany, so here I also want to be. But to change clubs as playing fewer matches, it is not an option if I can choose."
